The Korea Sori Arts Center, with a combination of exhibition, music, theater and reporting hall, is a world-leading comprehensive cultural institution. The signing has attracted wide attention among local media including the Jeonbuk Ilbo.
Afterward, the delegation visited the Korean National Intangible Heritage Center and had a work conference with its director Kang Kyung Hwan. Accompanied by Mr. Kang, the delegation visited an exhibition on Jeju Haenyo (female divers), which has been recently recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
On the afternoon of December 8, the delegation visited the Jeonbuk Culture and Tourism Foundation and met the foundation’s director Lee Byeong Cheon. Mr. Lee has a close bond with China, having visited China for over 30 times. The friendly meeting has reached multiple agreements on future cooperation.
Next morning, the delegation met with Mr. Choi Jeung Cheol, president of the Korea Craft & Design Foundation in Seoul, and visited the Craft Trend Fair organized by the foundation. Mr. Choi expressed strong interest in the museum’s exhibition and events next year and further cooperation in future projects.
In the afternoon, the delegation arrived at the historical Dongguk University and visited its president Han Tae Sik. Established by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, Dongguk University is a world-renown research university, with four branches around the world and the world’s largest collection of over 100,000 Buddhist classics.
Also, the university is the alma mater of over 80% of South Korea’s pop stars.
During the friendly conversation, Mr. Han expressed his wish to visit Shanghai and promote the cooperation with Shanghai Art Collection Museum.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the Hongguk University Museum. In order for the delegation to see the rare version of the Lotus Sutra showcased in the museum, which combines 13th centurySagyeong (Sutra-copying) and 14th century print art, Mr. Chung Woo Thak, the museum’s director, specially requested to delay the exhibition’s move-out for the delegation. Mr. Chung also donated his multiple research works on Buddhist art to the museum.
In the evening, the delegation met Mr. Ha Heong Bong, former spokesperson of the Korean (Republic) Embassy in China, and shared on cultural exchange and friendship between the countries.
On the morning of December 10, the delegation visited the Sutra-copying workshop of Mr. Kim Gyeong Ho and discussed with Mr. Kim on the exhibition and exchange of Korean Sutra-copying art in China. Mr. Kim also shown the collection of Sutra-copying art works in his workship.
Mr. Park Sung Yun, president of the Overseas Korean Trade Association in Shanghai, has accompanied the delegation during the visit.
