The 10th International Exhibition of Fine Arts, hosted by Shanghai Changning District People's Government and Shanghai Creative Industry Association, and undertaken by Shanghai Art Collection Museum and Shanghai Art and Design Academy, opened in Shanghai on June 11th.
The exhibition is a commemoration to celebrate the 15th Cultural and Natural Heritage Day of China, and is also ranked in construction content of "Shanghai Culture" brand and project of Shanghai Traditional Handicraft Revitalization Plan, as well as a key cultural exchange project of Shanghai Municipal Government to promote the communications and exchanges with friendly cities along the "Belt and Road".
Gathering of excellent artworks from various countries
Theme by “Many a Little makes a Mickle”, the exhibition has attracted famous artists, masters of arts and crafts and intangible cultural heritage inheritors from 22 countries, such as China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Australia, Iran, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, France, Germany, Italy, India, Israel, the Netherlands, Finland, Ukraine, Venezuela, Indonesia, Colombia and Tunisia, etc. Both the number of participating countries and participating artists, hit the historic record, which fully demonstrates that artists from all over the world stick to their original intention, learn from each other, integrate with each other, and persist in the development of inheritance and innovation in the overall style. This is particularly valuable in the context of the current blocked communication due to COVID-19, reflecting the desire of good communication shared by all different institutions and artists.
Appreciation of exhibits
Inheritors of China's intangible cultural heritage, such as cloisonne, Dehua porcelain burning, tin craft, copper sculpture, jade carving, red sandalwood carving, Manzu Nationality embroidery, Shidong Miao silver ornament and other representative skills, form a Chinese artists team to collectively pose with exquisite craft works.
Recipient of the Order of Culture Merit from the Japanese Government - Toyasai Ohi Chozaemon X, and nearly 40 representative inheritors of intangible cultural wealth (intangible cultural heritage) from Aichi, Nagasaki and Ishikawa prefectures bring ceramics, metals, lacquer art, dyeing and weaving works. We also have a group of colorful, fine-made ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, lacquer painting works from South Korea.

Experts from different countries discuss the responsibilities of ICH inheritance
The 8th International (Shanghai) Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Forum, which was held in conjunction with the exhibition, invited experts and scholars from China, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Iran, the United Kingdom, the United States, Israel, Turkey, Slovakia, Hungary and Colombia to discuss the social division of labor and roles of ICH protection. From the president of the International Council of Museums to the Chinese academicians, from the President of the Korean National Heritage Institute to the General Director of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, from the General Director of the Slovak National Museum to the president of Iran the "Belt and Road" Foundation, from sir OBE MVO to winner of Israel Prize for Life Achievement, from representatives of Culture Office of Education-Science-Culture-Public Health Committee of the National People’s Congress to consul-generals in Shanghai, from experts of Fudan University and East China Normal University to Director of Korea Cultural Heritage Institute, and artists from different art fields, etc. The high-specification forum provides a unique platform for exploring new ideas and new ways of intangible cultural heritage protection.
The fruitful achievement with 10 years accumulation
After 10 years of development, more than 1300 artists from all over the world and nearly 50 countries have participated in the International Exhibition of Traditional Fine Arts. More than 80 provincial and ministerial leaders attended the previous events, and dozens of consul-generals and heads of international organizations and national professional institutions, including the president of the International Council of Museums, have participated in series activities of international exhibitions.
Ten consecutive International Exhibitions of Traditional Fine Arts have produced plenteous results. As Hu Muqing, curator of the 10th International Exhibition of Traditional Fine Arts, and president of Shanghai Art Collection Museum, said that the theme of “Many a Little makes a Mickle” was selected for the exhibition and forum, which is not only a summary of the spirit of the past ten exhibitions, but also an important significance to highlight the inheritance of originality. In the future, Shanghai Art Collection Museum will cooperate with more units to continuously amplify the exhibition effect through the way of both “in” and “out” .
The exhibition will last until July 12th. After that, the selected works will be displayed in tour exhibitions in Jiading District and Takashimaya Shanghai Department Store.
