Introduction
Shanghai Art Collection Museum (SACM) is a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the Chinese Museums Association and is renowned for attracting top-tier artists and presenting outstanding works from China and abroad. Located in the picturesque Changning Tian Shan Park in the downtown of Shanghai, it is elegant and serene.
Since its founding, the museum has organized a series of widely influential exhibitions and events, including:
Costume Designs of Yang Liping Exhibition, Liang Family (Liang Qichao) Collection Exhibition, Chen Peiqiu Painting & Calligraphy Exhibition, Documents & Art of Liang Sicheng & Lin Huiyin Exhibition, the 1st–15th International Exhibition of Traditional Fine Arts, the 1st–13th International (Shanghai) Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Forum, the 1st–10th International Children’s Creative Art Exhibition, the 1st–8th International Children’s Art & Science Exhibition, the International Tour Exhibition of Chinese Traditional Fine Arts (Alexandria, Istanbul, Bratislava, Jakarta and Casablanca stations), the Tour Exhibition of International Children’s Creative Art Exhibition Tours (Isfahan, Bali, Yogyakarta and Tashkent Stations), the Belt and Road Art Exhibition (Tehran and Tashkent stations). In addition, other special exhibitions include: Transforming Shakespeare into Gold - A Special Exhibition Commemorating the 460th Anniversary of Shakespeare's Birth, the 620th anniversary of Zheng He’s Voyages Exhibition, the Commemorating Exhibition of Nobel laureate Pearl S. Buck, Turkish Photography Exhibition, China-Slovakia Art Joint Exhibition, Indonesian Art Exhibition, Iranian Carpet Exhibition, Persian Miniature Painting Exhibition, Shanghai and Istanbul Visual Art Exhibition, Yuan Ren-themed Painting & Calligraphy Exhibition, and many more.
The museum possesses abundant international art resources and extensive channels for cultural exchange. Among its projects, the International Exhibition of Traditional Fine Arts and the International (Shanghai) Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Forum are listed in the Shanghai Municipal Government’s “Shanghai Culture” brand program and the city’s three-year “Culture in Action” plan; and have been recognized as exemplary cases of China’s implementation of UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The International Tour Exhibition of Chinese Traditional Fine Arts received the “Silver Dove” Award from the Informational Office of Shanghai Municipality. The museum has been entrusted by the Shanghai government to host a variety of international cultural exchange programs.
SACM has collected lots of characteristic artworks. Among them, the Literary Selections personally annotated by Chengzhe Prince of Qing Dynasty, Duanxi Ink Stone sample (the other sample was given by President Hu Jintao of China to Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda of Japan as a national gift), Liang Qichao's calligraphy masterpiece Imitating the Inscription of Zhangqian's Monument, the original design manuscript of national emblem of the People's Republic of China made by Lin Huiyin, the original manuscript of History of Chinese Sculpture wrote by Liang Sicheng, Peacock Dress of Chinese top dancer Yang Liping, etc. are all rare treasures with only one piece in China. In addition, SACM collected representative works of many distinguished artists from various countries worldwide, including Japan, South Korea, United States, United Kingdom, Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Türkiye, Egypt, Lithuania, etc.
Shanghai Art Collection Museum is an explorer actively engaged in international cultural exchanges cooperating with important museums and related cultural institutions of over 70 countries, such as the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of Indonesia, Oxford University, etc.
The museum has won dozens of honors at all levels and published many books.
