Born in Gejiu, Yunnan Province, Lai Qingguo is a renowned master of Chinese arts and crafts. Fascinated by fine art since childhood, he has focused on the history and development of Chinese metalwork since the early 1980s. After specialized training in arts and crafts design at Yunnan Arts University in 1983, he worked as a professional art designer and later became art director for Gejiu Buxi Arts & Crafts Co. and Honghe Jinyi Cultural Industries.

Lai has served as chairman of the Gejiu Artists Association and as a guest professor at Yunnan Arts University and Honghe University. His works have received numerous national gold, silver, and bronze awards. He was named Yunnan Province Master of Arts and Crafts in 2006 and China Arts and Crafts Master in 2007.
