Artist: Lu Fusheng (China, 1949)
Born in Dongyang, Zhejiang Province, Lu Fusheng is a noted painter, calligrapher, art theorist, and educator. A 1982 graduate of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, he serves as President and Editor-in-Chief of the Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Publishing House, General Manager of Duoyunxuan, and doctoral advisor at the China Academy of Art. He is also a council member of the China Artists Association and Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association.
Lu’s paintings and calligraphy have been widely exhibited and collected by institutions including the National Art Museum of China and the Hong Kong Academy of Arts. His celebrated work The Phoenix Hairpin earned the Silver Medal at the 6th National Art Exhibition.
Alongside his art practice, Lu is an influential scholar, author of major theoretical texts such as On Heaven and Man, Theory of the Ecology of Calligraphy, and Comprehensive History of Chinese Humanistic Painting. Critics praise his paintings for their serene, spacious beauty—marked by “ethereal structure, tranquil brushwork, and a quiet, distant spirit.”
