Born in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, Yoshida Yoshinori—given name Minoru—began studying ceramics at the family’s Kinzan Kiln after graduating from Komatsu High School.
He first exhibited at the 21st Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition in 1974 and went on to receive numerous honors, including the Japan Kōgeikai Encouragement Prize (1984), the Prince Takamatsu Memorial Prize (1992), the Issuikai Prize (1978), the Asahi Ceramic Art Prize (1980), and the Sino-Japanese International Ceramic Art Exhibition Prize (1984).
Yoshida is renowned for his mastery of overglaze gold decoration (yūri kin-sai), a technique that applies intricate gold-foil patterns beneath the glaze. In 2001 he was designated a Living National Treasure for this art, recognized as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan.
