Artist: Xu Chaoxing (China, 1943)
Born in Longquan, Zhejiang Province, Xu Chaoxing is the first nationally recognized Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts in the celadon field and an officially designated inheritor of China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage celadon tradition. He also serves as President of the Zhejiang Celadon Association and was a deputy to the 8th and 9th National People’s Congress.
Xu’s works have won numerous top awards, including first prize at the National Ceramic Competition for his celebrated Ge-kiln large hanging plate. Many of his pieces are held in prestigious collections, including the Ziguang Pavilion at Zhongnanhai, the Great Hall of the People, and even the White House in the United States.
This large celadon bowl, decorated with a distinctive carved chiseled-wave motif, exemplifies Xu’s mastery of traditional Longquan glazing and his innovative approach to form and texture.
