On November 8, 2023, Hu Muqing, President of the Shanghai Art Collection Museum (SACM) paid a visit to the new British Consul General in Shanghai, Mr. Matthew Burney, and got a warm reception.

Mr. Hu Muqing talked about SACM’s UK themed collection, the cultural activities related to UK that SACM held in the past years, the donation ceremony of literature about Shanghai cultural and art that will be held at Oxford University, and the preparations for the "Shakespeare Shanghai Special Exhibition".

Consul General Matthew Burney expressed gratitude and appreciation to SACM for its long-term active commitment to strengthening cultural exchanges between China and the UK. He fully affirmed the UK themed collection in the museum. He stated that as the Consul General, he will take every opportunity to actively promote exchanges and cooperation between SACM and relevant cultural institutions in the UK.

Both sides also discussed the opportunity of holding relevant cultural activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Shanghai and its sister city Liverpool, next year.

Ms. Catherine Sinclair-Jones, Area Director of British Council in East China and Consul (Culture and Education) in British Consulate-General in Shanghai, stated during the meeting that the Council is willing to actively support all kinds of cultural activities. She will also reach the headquarter to receive SACM team in London during the next trip.The communication was pratical and positive.
