SACM visited Slovakia and UK successfully

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the friendly relations between Shanghai and  Bratislava, the "International Tour Exhibition of Chinese Traditional Fine Arts( Bratislava Station)" was held at the Slovak National Museum - Museum of History from October 12 to November 12, 2023. Exhibition of Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage in Slovakia


   01 Bratislava       

This event was hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism. It was co-organized by the Shanghai Art Collection Museum(SACM), the Shanghai Art & Design Academy, the Shanghai Art Research Center, and the Slovak National Museum -Museum of History. The event has received strong support from various entities, including the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Shanghai, Shanghai lnternational Culture Association, Shanghai Magnolia Foundation for International Exchange, Shanghai Cultural Agency, Shanghai Changning District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Shanghai Printing Group Co., Ltd, Shanghai Juyuan Culture Development Co., Ltd.

President of SACM visited the Chinese Embassy in Slovakia as part of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government delegation and received a warm welcome from Ambassador Cai Ge and others.

President Hu Muqing from SACM visited Mr. Radoslav Ragač, Director General of Cultural Heritage and State Language Section.

President Hu Muqing visited Ms. Ivana Vala Magatova, Former Consul General of Slovakia Republic in Shanghai, who provided strong support for this exhibition.





After the official launch of  "International Tour Exhibition of Chinese Traditional Fine Arts( Bratislava Station)" the SACM continued its journey to Oxford, Stratford, London, and relevant partner institutions to prepare for follow-up work.





  02 Oxford


On October 16th, the delegation visited the University of Oxford, where they were warmly received by Mr. Richard Ovenden, Head of Gardens, Libraries, & Museums (GLAM) and the senior executive officer of the Bodleian Libraries, Mr. Antony Brewerton, Deputy Librarian of the Bodleian Libraries, and Professor Mamtimyn Sunuodula, Director of the East Asia Department of the Bodleian Libraries. The hosts showcased precious ancient Chinese manuscripts and art treasures from the library's collection, including the "Yongle Encyclopedia." Discussions were held regarding the next steps in collaboration between the institutions.

On the same day, SACM held discussions with Mr. Shelagh Vainker, Director of the Ashmolean Museum at the University of Oxford, and Mr. Xa Sturgis, a curator specializing in Chinese art. The talks centered around potential collaborations in academic research and organizing exhibitions between the two museums.

The delegation also visited the Pitt Rivers Museum (University of Oxford Museum of Anthropology and Natural History) and held discussions with Dr. Marenka,  Curator of the museum.









  03 Startford


On October 17th, SACM visited the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. They held a working meeting with curators Rachel and Paul, as well as Emily, the manager of the collections department. The delegation also closely examined the important collections at Shakespeare's birthplace, laying a solid foundation for the introduction of Shakespearean exhibitions at SACM.

 04 London            

On October 18th, SACM visited the Cultural Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in London.Cultural Counsellor Li Liyan and others warmly received the delegation. Minister Counsellor Li praised the museum's work in organizing exhibitions and cultural exchanges and suggested bringing relevant exhibitions from the museum to be held in the UK.

The delegation also inspected the Schloss Hof, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Austria, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, and the rare book market in London. They were invited to attend the 20th London Frieze Art Fair, which proved to be a fruitful experience.
