SACM actively explore cooperation with multiple partners

At the end of the year and the beginning of the new year, Shanghai Art Collection Museum (SACM) actively carried out exchanges and cooperation negotiations with the heads of relevant cultural organizations, experts and scholars from various countries including the United States, Japan, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Turkiye, Colombia, Slovakia, Austria, etc. Through these meetings, SACM has set new goals for this year's work.
Consulate General of Turkiye
in Shanghai
On Dec 23rd, Ozlan Kural, Consul General of Turkiye in Shanghai, and Deputy Consul Ataberk Mercan visited SACM. The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Turkiye, as well as the 36th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Shanghai and Istanbul. It will also mark the Turkish Cultural and Tourism Year. CG Kural expressed that the Turkish Consulate in Shanghai will actively support the activities for celebration jointly organized by SACM and Istanbul. Both sides also discussed matters related to holding a thematic exhibition about Turkiye at SACM.

Consulate General of Japan
in Shanghai
On Dec 25th, Mr. Hu Muqing, President of SACM, celebrated the year-end gathering with Okada Masaru, Consul General of Japan in Shanghai, Ayako Hasegawa, Head of the Press and Cultural Affairs, and Kanako Kozayu, Vice Consul of the Press and Cultural Affairs from the Japanese Consulate General. CG Okada said that China and Japan now have friendly diplomatic relations, and with the upcoming 2025 Osaka Expo, there will be more opportunities for China-Japan cooperation. He expected that SACM would organize related activities to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

New York Public Library
On Jan 9th, SACM held an online meeting with Doug Reside, the curator of the New York Public Library and Annemarie Van Roessel, the assistant curator, to discuss jointly organizing the Pearl S. Buck special exhibition. Mr. Reside introduced the special collections of the New York Public Library, and the two sides discussed the coordination of borrowing exhibits and the exchange of staff visits.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality
On Jan 16th, SACM held an online meeting with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB). Mahir Polat, Deputy Secretary-General; Volkan Aslan, head of the Culture Department; Oktay Özel, Director of the Cultural Heritage Department and the head of the Cultural Diplomacy Office of IBB, attended the meeting. The two sides discussed the preparation and venue for SACM holding a thematic exhibition in Istanbul.


Osaka City Office in Shanghai
On Jan 20th, Matoba Masanobu, Director of Osaka City Office in Shanghai, visited SACM. Mr. Hu introduced the achievements of the "Sino-Japanese Buddhism Exhibition of Calligraphy and Paintings" organized by SACM in Japan. Both sides agreed to cooperate in organizing Sino-Japanese cultural exchange activities during the Osaka Expo 2025.

Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan
On Jan 20th, SACM held an online meeting with Akmal Nuridinov, the Chairman of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. Mr. Hu, President of SACM, expressed gratitude to Dr. Nuridinov for inviting SACM 's delegation to visit Uzbekistan and attend the International Biennal of Uzbekistan. The two sides discussed cooperation in co-hosting exhibitions and visiting each other.


Consulate General of Colombia
in Shanghai
On Jan 20th, Miguel Gomez, Consul-General of Colombia and Hector Angulo, Deputy Consul-General, visited SACM. Mr. Hu expressed gratitude to CG Gomez for supporting the SACM delegation to visit Colombia and introduced the achievements of this visit. CG Gomez expressed his support for the cooperation between SACM and Colombia and expected that SACM could bridge the cultural exchanges between China and Colombia.

Consulate General of Indonesia
in Shanghai
On Jan 21st, Berlianto Situngkir, Consul-General of Indonesia and Dila, the Culture Consul visited SACM. 2025 will be the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China, the 5th anniversary of the conclusion of the Friendship City between Shanghai and Jakarta, and also coincides with the 620th anniversary of Zheng He's first voyage as well as the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, which is of far-reaching significance. During the exchange, CG Situngkir said that the Consulate General of Indonesia would actively support the cultural exchange activities between SACM and the Jakarta Provincial Government and look forward to further deepening the exchanges between the two countries through multiple cultural and tourism cooperation programs.

On Jan 22nd, Mr. Hu and SACM team had a dinner with Helmut Rakowitsch, Consul-General of Austria and Igor Pacolak, Consul-General of Slovakia, and came to a consensus about multiple affairs for cooperation in the new year.

Consulate General of Uzbekistan
in Shanghai
On Jan 24th, Sherzod Narzullaev, Consul-General of Uzbekistan,Kutbiddin Ubaydullaev, Deputy Consul-General and the team of Consulate-General visited SACM. Mr. Hu introduced the cooperation between SACM and Uzbek cultural institutions to the CG. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the cooperation between China and Uzbekistan in the development of cultural heritage and tourism resources. CG Narzullaev hoped that the integration of culture and tourism development will bring new vitality to cultural undertakings of the two countries.

Pearl S. Buck International
On Jan 25th, SACM held an online meeting with Samantha Freise, the Curator of Pearl S. Buck International. Ms Freise gave a specific introduction of the extensive collection of Pearl S. Buck International. The two sides discussed jointly holding exhibitions and publishing books about Pearl S. Buck in Chinese and expected to promote the cultural exchanges between China and the United States together.

While maintaining close communication with international institutions, SACM also actively seek strong support from its supervisory authorities and engaging in in-depth discussions with domestic partners on the organization and implementation of related activities. Recently, Zhong Xiaomin, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, Deputy Director Xiang Yihai; Ning Feng, President of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), Zhang Weimin, Board Member and the Assistant to the President; Zhao Feng, Director of the China Maritime Museum, Deputy Director Lu Wei; and Chen Chao, Director of the Shanghai Library, have either received briefings or visited the museum for research and discussions. They provided guidance and engaged in cooperative discussions on matters related to international cultural exchange.
In the new year, with the strong support of relevant departments, SACM looks forward to further deepening its collaboration with cultural domestic and international institutions. Through joint exhibitions, cultural exchanges, and thematic research, SACM aims to actively promote Chinese culture globally.
